Students in grades 7 and 8 are focusing on the Elements and Principles of Art. We have focused on rhythm, pattern, and contrast in 7th grade and 8th grade has focused on value, texture, shape, line, and is finishing up an accordion booklet demonstrating their knowledge of the Elements and Principles of Art.
6th grade did some research on the rain forest and chose an animal to study and learn more about. They used the animal as the subject in their printmaking project and then created a collaged frame around their best print. This project was to demonstrate how art can communicate ideas: in this case, how it can bring awareness to the importance of conserving the rain forest and the species in it. Currently, 6th graders are studying color theory. They have created a color wheel, experimented with color values, mixed complementary neutrals, and are now working on a color scheme name design.
I can't believe that October is this week! We are moving right along! As usual, please feel free to email me or call with any questions or concerns. I hope that you enjoy the beautiful work by our talented students. Also, I want to take a moment to thank all of the students and parents who came out to open house. It means a lot to us to be able to meet you and share what goes on in our classrooms. I look forward to sharing more of our lessons and artwork with you soon!
